Social Media

Hashtags

Always use "camel case" for hashtags with more than one word, #JustLikeThis. Limit use of hashtags to 2-3 per tweet. Careful not to hashtag obscure words or abbreviations that are not general knowledge. Instead, put those hashtags after the main content and use another, more recognizable word or spell out the abbreviation in the main text of the post to ensure clarity. Use accessibility focused hashtags such as #a11y.

⬇ Wrong

A sample tweet does not use camel case hashtags and uses an unknown abbreviation.

⬇ Right

A sample tweet uses camel case hashtags and explicitly states the full organization's name rather than just the abbreviation. It then uses additional shorter hashtags at the end.

Tagging

Tag people in posts when appropriate. For example, when sharing upcoming webinars, tag webinar speakers in the post.

Responding to Comments

Our goal at 3Play is to be as transparent as possible, and to offer support our customers. If a customer asks a question via social media, reach out to that person as soon as possible with clear next steps, such as who to contact about their inquiry. If possible and if it doesn't violate the customers privacy, answer the question directly on the comment, or if you're unsure, send a private message. If the comment is negative, it should be addressed in a professional manner publicly, however any further communication regarding the negative comment should be done so privately.

Images, Captions, and More

Media

Include an image or video with every social media post.

Alt text

When possible, include alt text with every social media image. Most major social media platforms allow you to edit the alt text of images (Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram). Follow basic alt text guidelines for social media images and limit character count to 125 except in cases where the image requires a more detailed description. If you cannot edit the alt-text, provide as much description as you can in the post itself.

Captions

Keep tone and language in social media posts consistent with 3Play's brand. Use captions that call for audience engagement as often as possible, such as asking people to comment on the post.

Accessibility

The most common social media accessibility issues that arise for users are lack of alt text for images and screen reader compatibility. Many of the above best practices ensure that 3Play's social media content is as accessible as we can make it.
